This is a brand new edition to our website so stay tuned in for lots of updates
Today we got an email from Scott and our travelers that are currently in Roatan Honduras! With them all in shorts and tank tops, and it frosting at night here, its hard not to envy them. They have been having a great time and getting in some amazing diving. There are 36 people that went on this trip with us! We will be sure to post lots of pictures when they return home.
In the picturesque little town of Toberymory Canada rests a place called Little Tub Harbor. For most of the year this harbor is coated in snow and ice in a Canadian winter, but for those precious few summer months it is a dive destination to behold! Flanked by the Fathom Five marine park Tobermory is a mecca for wreck divers.
The waters are CRYSTAL clear. Even more so than the Caribbean (I know that is hard to believe!). Due to the cold waters ancient and beautiful wrecks are still impeccable condition.
One of our favorite wrecks, The Arabia, was sunk in the 1800's. All wooden and over 130ft, she sits in a max depth of 110ft. Due to the unique way she sunk The Arabia is almost fully intact. As you are diving down the descent line the whole ghostly ship just begins to materialize in front of you. It feels surreal, like it should be part of a movie.
Now I know what you are thinking, earlier I mentioned cold water... Toberymory may be cold diving but it is absolutely worth it. With the aid of a dry suit and hypnotizing wrecks you do not even feel it. That being said some of the silliest memories on this trip are made while gearing up on the boat. Putting on dry suits, gloves, hoods, boots and all our equipment makes for some hilarious preparations! We had two girls on our trip and because of their long hair they used pantyhose to slip on the dry neck seals with more ease! They were not happy about these pictures!!
Each morning we would set out for an early breakfast and then board our boat, The Deep Obsession, and dive all morning. While the diving is nothing short of breath-taking, we would work up quite and appetite! With a little begging (and bribery in the form of grilled hamburgers) our captains would give us a scenic tour of Flowerpot island (most visitors to Little tub pay big bucks to rent a boat to go see this beautiful place!). After we got our sight seeing in they would take us to this quiet little cove and we would grill up lunch on the boat before heading back out for more dives.
The day the group arrived in Tobermory we had some time to spare so we all decided to go on a hike to the lighthouse. While standing on the edge and with some 'I dare you's' thrown around a few of our travelers jumped in the water! BRR the surface temp was 54 degrees!! (The boys will never admit it but the girls stayed in longer than them)
The trip was an unforgettable one and we cannot wait to go back next year!
